Authorities have reported at least five fatalities during the Christmas weekend, between Saturday, December 23, and Monday, December 25, in different traffic accidents in the country.
This Monday, December 25, in the morning, the National Civil Police (PNC) reported the death of a driver who crashed his red pickup on kilometer 41.5 of the Litoral highway, heading towards Comalapa. According to the PNC, the driver lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, December 24, in the afternoon, a woman died after falling from the bed of a pickup truck traveling on the main street of San Juan Las Minas, in the municipality of Metapán, Santa Ana department.
In the early hours of the 24th, the PNC reported the death of a driver in a traffic accident on Roosevelt Sur avenue, in the San Miguel department. Authorities indicated that the victim collided with another vehicle, while the other driver suffered serious injuries. The Police reported that, according to the Traffic Division inspection, the accident was due to lane invasion and inappropriate speed.
On the night of December 23, the PNC reported a traffic accident on kilometer 20 of the Pan-American Highway, in San Pedro Perulapán, Cuscatlán department. A vehicle overturned, and two people died.
In none of the cases did the authorities provide the identity of the deceased individuals.
In another incident with no fatalities, the Police reported a traffic accident on the Juan Pablo II boulevard and España avenue in the San Salvador department, in which a minibus driver from route 26 failed to yield to an emergency vehicle that was in service and collided with the patrol car. Three police officers and seven bus passengers were injured and taken to a medical center, stated the PNC.
