Interpol teams in El Salvador detained a Barrio 18 Sureños gang member who had a red notice for being wanted by a Sentence Court in San Miguel to serve a 28-year prison sentence for the crimes of aggravated homicide and terrorist organizations.
The National Civil Police (PNC) identified the detained gang member as Jorge Alfredo Pérez Nieto, also known as «Chano,» who has a criminal record in the department of Usulután. The gang member was detained by Interpol in a border area between Mexico and the United States and was immediately deported to El Salvador.
Pérez Nieto was declared guilty by a Sentence Court in San Miguel of having murdered a man with machetes, along with other individuals, in 2014.
The PNC stated that in addition to handing him over to the authorities of the court to begin serving the prison sentence in a penal institution in the country, they will also notify the Attorney General’s Office to initiate criminal proceedings for the crime of illicit associations.
